CEO of Suntec Singapore, Arun Madhok, wins the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2016
Singapore, 17 August 2016 – Chief Executive Officer of Suntec Singapore, Arun Madhok, was conferred the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2016 (APEA). Arun was the sole recipient in the Award’s inaugural Hospitality, Food Service & Tourism category.
Launched in 2007, the APEA is organised by Enterprise Asia, a non-governmental organisation and entrepreneurship think-tank with presence in 12 countries across the Asia Pacific region. This year, the award received close to 90 nominees from Singapore. After a series of rigorous tests including independent assessments, an audit and an interview, 27 winners across 16 industry categories were selected.
Arun was recognised for his exemplary leadership and business foresight. His flair in creating a culture of innovation, ability in overcoming adversity, and efforts in corporate social responsibility work were instrumental in propelling his organisation forward.
“I am deeply humbled. Winning the award is an affirmation of Suntec Singapore’s commitment to business excellence and growth. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the Board, our clients, our partners and staff of Suntec Singapore for their trust and support,” remarked Arun.
Arun joined Suntec Singapore in 2009 as Business Development Director and was quickly promoted to be the Chief Operating Officer before eventually taking over the reins as CEO in 2012. With Arun at the helm, Suntec Singapore embarked on an ambitious SGD$180 million modernisation programme that made it into one of the most technologically advanced venues. The flexibility and adaptability of the spaces in Suntec Singapore when combined with the smart technology and top-notch service by skilled professionals have resulted in Suntec Singapore winning many awards in the last two years including garnering global recognition as the “World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre” in 2014. In 2015, Suntec Singapore achieved its best ever financial performance in the company’s 20 year history.
On his next step as a successful business leader, Arun shared, “I aspire, through Suntec Singapore, to continue this creative and innovative approach to our business, and develop new ways to deliver memorable experiences for our customers and visitors. We want to inspire the industry to follow suit. My guiding principle has always been ‘anything worth doing is worth doing well’. I believe that with the team we have at Suntec Singapore, we will continue to be The Preferred Place to Meet.”
Arun added, “I want to help and mentor upcoming business leaders. My advice to them is to choose the road less travelled, think big and take action. Also, remember to have some fun along the way.”
