Rilla & Warren J. Buckley Meetings Industry Scholarship Fund

Warren J. Buckley had been the Chief Executive Officer of Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Suntec Singapore) since 2001. During his tenure, Mr. Buckley has been instrumental in shaping the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry both locally and internationally. He is a sought after speaker at industry events, and has spent a significant amount of time sharing his knowledge of the MICE industry, and educating the future leaders of the profession. Additionally, he has also helped members of the press and media industry understand the various nuances to allow them the ability for more in depth and insightful coverage into this blossoming industry.

Warren Buckley has stepped down as CEO of Suntec Singapore in December 2007 and returned to his hometown, Vancouver, Canada, to assume the position of CEO at PAVCO.

After spending seven fruitful years in Singapore, friends and colleagues wanted to impart a gift of significance. In lieu of personal gifts, the idea of a Scholarship Fund set up to provide further education to a deserving individual was one that was embraced by many. It seemed most ideal to Mr. Buckley that this scholarship fund be used for a candidate looking to advance his or herself in the meetings industry, as that is an industry in which he is a proud professional as well as one that is poised for significant growth in Singapore.

Subsequently, the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), Singapore became an ideal partner to the Scholarship Fund as the UNLV program provides a variety of education programmes for the tourism and convention industry. Having a campus in Singapore for the education programmes has made the idea of the Scholarship Fund easier to administer.
